Canadian International School (CIS) is a private international school in Singapore, that celebrates its internationalism with 70 nationalities represented among its students and staff.

Canadian International School has two locations in Singapore:

  • Lakeside in the west (from Nursery- students aged 2 through to Grade 12), and
  • Tanjong Katong in the east (for students aged 3 to 12).

The Lakeside Campus adopts a schools-within-a-school design, with a dedicated Kindergarten wing and designated Primary and Secondary zones. All classrooms are designed as learning pods: large open and versatile spaces. Kindergarten and Primary classrooms are organized by grade levels, while Secondary classrooms are organized by subjects.

Among the Lakeside’s facilities are:

  • dedicated STEAM maker spaces,
  • a green room,
  • a digital recording studio,
  • science labs,
  • an arts center and a 500-seat theatre,
  • a gymnasium and multi-purpose recreational center,
  • a multi-story library,
  • a sports field,
  • a swimming complex, and
  • tennis courts,

In December 2019, a brand new wing’s construction commenced in Lakeside Campus and is due to open in mid-2021.

The Canadian International School follows the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum from Kindergarten through to Grade 12.

The Kindergarten program for the youngest learners (aged 2 to 5) and the Primary School program for students in Grades 1 to 6 are delivered within the Primary Years Programme (PYP) framework.

Secondary School students in Grades 7 to 10 follow the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), and students in Grades 11 to 12 study the internationally recognized IB Diploma Programme (IBDP)

CIS’s pedagogical approach focuses on developing 4Cs skill-sets students need to succeed in the 21st century: Critical thinking, Creativity, Communication, and Collaboration.

The curriculum is complemented with a broad range of languages.

CIS offers a pioneering bilingual Chinese-English program, which is available to students in pre-kindergarten to grade 6.

Starting this academic year 2020/2021, CIS also offers a French-English bilingual program for children in Grades 2 to 5 and Grades 1 to 5 from the year 2021/2022 onwards.

Annual Tuition fees vary from S$ 16,500 for the Nursery half-day program to S$ 40,900 for Grades 11 to 12 in 2020/2021.

Very good experience in the bilingual programme

4.2/ 5

We were looking for a school with a bilingual programme (English-Mandarin) and we liked CIS the most. They use 50/50 each language.
My daughter has been there for 2 years and she speaks quite fluently in both languages, apart from Spanish that is her mother tongue.
Facilities are great, and the youngest ones have a big playground where they play with sand, water, they have plants, … very funny for them.

Overall great facilities but gaps in the education system

3.6/ 5

Our perception is that the school puts more emphasys on business than efforts to really set a high standard educational system, senior and mature.
No complaints on the facilities that are totally new and really great, with well designed spaces for the kids to play and enjoy.
We spend 4 years from kindergarten, first years were ok, demand for kids are low, objective is socializing and play, entering into grade 2,3 you could see the disconnection, progress/education varies too much depending on teacher skills, what means gaps on the school systems. In math the aren’t strong.
