The Awty International School is a private, international school in western Houston (Texas), one of the world’s most diverse cities which welcomes thousands of new residents from around the world every year.
The Awty International School helps to attract global citizens by providing within one school community an international experience with an international and diverse community of students and teachers from over 70 countries. It offers countless multicultural experiences that allow students to understand different cultures, build empathy, and the ability to collaborate, and think creatively.
The Awty International School was founded in 1956 by Mrs. Kay Awty and her ideals are still reflected in the philosophy of the school and its educators: to establish a supportive, student-centered environment where students can reach their full potential, enriched by diversity across the campus.
The Awty International School welcomes students from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12. Students entering the 9th grade choose to follow one of two academic paths; both lead to the American High School Diploma, but also graduating with either the International Baccalaureate (IB) or the French Baccalauréat (French Bac). The Awty is the only school in Houston accredited by the French Ministry of Education.
The Awty International School also offers a variety of languages for all the students. Students, regardless of the grade of entry, study multiple languages:
- Immersion programs in French and Spanish at the Early Learning level,
- Intensive language study in Lower School,
- Several offerings—Arabic, Dutch, English, Farsi, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Norwegian, Portuguese, and Russian—in Middle School and Upper School.
The Awty offers dual language immersion opportunities allowing students to complete their courses in a combination of English, French, or Spanish.
Finally, the Awty International School provides extra-curricular activities that are both organized and self-directed. There are opportunities for students to volunteer to be part of the Student Government or to participate in a club, a team, or a leadership group.
Tuition fees or the 2020-2021 school year vary from US$23,972 in Pre-Kindergarten to US$30,236 in High School.
One of the best schools in Houston.
