INTRODUCTION TO Holy Mary British Catholic School

Holy Mary British Catholic School is an international school in Madrid offering the British curriculum for children aged two years to 18 years old.

LOCATION / CAMPUS

The school has two campuses in Madrid: One campus for the Infant School and a second for the Junior and Secondary school. Both campuses (within a 15-minute walk) are located in Chamartín, a fashionable residential area in the north area of downtown Madrid.

CURRICULUM / AGES (GRADES)

Holy Mary British Catholic School pursues Academic Excellence, and all students are exposed to several internal formative and summative assessments throughout the school year from:

– Early Years and Foundation Stage

– Key Stage 1/2 – Infant and Junior School

– Key Stages 3 & 4 – Secondary Education

Children are also monitored through external assessments such as the Early Years Learning Goals, GL Assessments battery, CEM/Durham, and more formally iGCSEs and A Levels.

In Key Stage 4, students select two IGCSE options for Years 10 and 11.

Once the IGCSEs are completed, students commence the pre-university Advanced Level (A-Level) qualification courses that rub for two years in Year 12 and Year 13. Students take their final examinations at the end of Year 13.

Language of Instruction: English and Spanish. Formal Spanish classes begin in Year 1.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

The school offers several Extracurricular activities, which run from Tuesday-Thursday, and students are encouraged to take on as many activities as they want. The activities include sports, artistic endeavors, a choir, and homework clubs, such as Ballet, Football, Cooking, Flamenco, Robotics, European Youth Parliament, or Study Skills.
