The Hollandse School Singapore (HSL) is a private Dutch school in Singapore and offers a Dutch education based on the IPC (International Primary Curriculum). The Hollandse School is the largest Dutch-language IPC school abroad and has been providing quality Dutch education for 100 years since the school opened its first singles classroom in the Hollandse Club.
This year, in 2020, the school is celebrating its centenary!
Currently, the school is located at the Bukit Tinggi Road, surrounded by greenery at a quiet central location. The school facilities include two separate buildings for the nursery and primary school, a comprehensive library, a Learning Support Centre, a children’s kitchen, an art room, a music/dance space, and a PE hall, which is also used for assemblies.
The Hollandse School Singapore combines a Dutch curriculum that allows students to retain their Dutch mother tongue within an international environment. For HSL there are three important areas of focus:
- Education in the Dutch language. Retaining one’s native language has positive implications for multilingualism and better educational results.
- International dimension as students grow up and live in an international environment.
- Individual attention. HSL is a small school where students integrate quickly. The school sees each child as an individual and provides dedicated teachers for each child’s personal requirements.
Additionally to the Dutch language, English lessons as a second language are provided at all levels from classes 1 and 2 in Lower Primary to Upper Primary. The school also provides extra support for children in classes 3 – 7 who are new to Singapore and have little or no knowledge of English.
As a result, students who graduated from HSL primary school preserve their mother tongue, while also mastering the English language at a high level. They will be able to enter international secondary education without any problems or continue with the Dutch education system – even at the secondary school if the families return to their home countries in the Netherlands or Belgium.
The Hollandse School Singapore is a fully independent and self-supporting school with a neutral character and legal entity (Limited) under Singaporean law. Be aware that all parents become members of Hollandse School Limited and are involved in their children’s education.
School Fees are payable in three installments per school term and do not vary from the Dutch Stream Group 1-8 (4 to 12 year-old students) to the International Stream (Pre)Reception (4 to 5 year-old students). For 2023-2024 Tuition Fees are S$26,333 per school year. The complete School Fee structure can be downloaded here.
